Barnardsville - Nestled back in the valley of northern Buncombe County is the community of Barnardsville and Big Ivy. Once a little town unto itself the wide spread use of automobiles has helped in connecting the community to the larger area. This has caused the little local businesses, which depended on the remoteness to the rest of the area, to decline.
What hasnt declined is the spirit of community and patriotism of the Big Ivy community that keeps residents continuing their annual Fourth of July celebration each year. The parade forms up and starts at the Barnardsville Elementary School and follows the road into Barnardsvilles center and then turns right out Dillingham Road ending at the community center. Motorcycles, horses, floats, fire trucks and vehicles along with golf carts and walkers make up the parade. The parade route is line mostly at the town area and at the center with the main body of spectators, while other parade watchers are found sporadically along the route.
The days events are capped off by a fire works display for those in the community.
